About This Spot

Stepping into Ye Ole Tyme Saloon feels like slipping into a cherished corner of local history where time slows just enough to savor simple pleasures. Nestled on 1st Street in Rulo, Nebraska, this long-standing bar & grill carries a warm, lived-in atmosphere that invites a quiet pause from the everyday rush. The mood here is unpretentious yet enduringly welcoming—a place where regulars and visitors alike settle into well-worn booths and share stories over familiar flavors.

The pace of Ye Ole Tyme Saloon is relaxed, marked by the soft hum of conversation and the gentle clink of glasses. It’s a spot where the rhythms of the day are measured by the pouring of a cold beer or the comforting aroma of slow-cooked prime rib on a Saturday night. There’s a tenderness to the experience—hand-cut fries, the unmistakable taste of catfish freshly fried, and the smoky warmth of baby back ribs—that speaks to both tradition and care in the kitchen.

Behind the bar and in the dining room, a family-run spirit feels woven into every detail. It’s this human touch that makes each visit a genuine moment of connection, whether you’re here to enjoy a casual meal or make a special trip just to savor beloved dishes. The proximity to the river adds a quiet grace, making it easy to imagine lingering by the water with a full belly and good company as the day fades.

Ye Ole Tyme Saloon isn’t flashy or hurried—it’s steady, familiar, and quietly vibrant. It’s the kind of place where the food always tastes like it belongs, and the hospitality never feels rehearsed. For anyone looking to experience a slice of Nebraska’s local heart and heritage, it’s worth the visit, time and again.

Great food! Awesome Staff! We love coming here, & we've never had a bad meal! Some of the best catfish you'll ever eat! The fries are also hand cut! The catfish basket is only $9! Every person's food around us, looked awesome! Try this local spot, & you won't be disappointed!

Ye Old Time Saloon is now the Swingin Door Saloon. The staff is friendly and the menu looks great. I stopped in on a long ride and just got a beer, but the food in the air smelled great. They have specials and I think a Sunday buffet.

This restaurant has been a regional favorite for decades in one form or another for a good reason. It's worth the drive folks!

We try and make it to once a week. The chicken gizzards and livers caught our eye. Now we make a special trip down there just to order those and then we go sit by the river. It’s always a trip well worth it. Never had a bad meal yet. Thank you.

Very decent place to grab a bite while close to big lake not a far drive at all. Food was good freshly made had the home fries. If I get this way again will definitely hit it again but next time catfish will definitely be my next meal. It's a family ran business. You really need to read up it's history aperntly it's the oldest running bar in nebraska. My buddy has a place at big lake and eats here all the time.

Now called Swingin' Door Saloon. Great food at great prices! Awesome little find, definitely worth the drive! They have the best fried chicken and catfish with all your favorite sides like fried okra for order or buffet, all handmade, and they have a breakfast buffet on Sundays! We will definitely be back!

Great food and salad bar. The hand breaded chicken strips were excellent. They had cake too.
